Japan: to the land of the rising sun...I salute you!

I cannot BELIEVE I am doing this again in such a short space of time. With the gorgeous country of New Zealand still picking up the pieces from their own earthquake, Japan will now be facing many dark days.

Japan is the country of my dreams... I have held a fascination with it's multi- faceted culture ever since I was a little girl, it is my dream to go there to work ( most likely to teach English ) once I finish my studies. Having this disaster anywhere is terrible but it was especially heartbreaking for me to watch those tsunami waves crash into the countryside and seeing pictures of rubble and distraught people.

To The Depressed Reader, one of my readers and former blogger, Takashi I only know that you both live in or around Tokyo and you were most likely affected. I hope that you are both unharmed and that your friends and family are safe. My hope is that there will be no more loss of life and minimal injuries, how possible that is I don't know. To everyone else...please take care of yourselves.

Also the the people living in the areas that have been issued Tsunami alerts (New Zealand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Hawaii among others) Please be careful!.

I try to be as genuine as I can in situations like this and not say things that are cliched....I honestly can say that you will be in my thoughts today.

  1. Hi Stephi,
Thanks for the concern. I was in the subway in Tokyo, but fortunately I was changing trains so I was at a station, not stuck on a train in the tunnel.

In Tokyo I think the damage is relatively small, but in the northern part of Honshu (the main island) it seems pretty rough. Whole towns destroyed, places in flames, ships overturned. I saw news footage of a house being washed, whole, down the street!

The latest news said that 90 people were dead, and that will most likely rise. It is a bad day for Japan. But this country has dealt with many disasters before and come through them. It will deal with this one too and come out the other side.

  2. Amen. I add my thoughts and prayers to yours. I found out about it at about two in the morning and have worried all night. I have a friend there that I haven't heard from yet. Praying that he is okay, too.

  3. Hey D.P, Thanks for replying. I am so SO happy that you are okay. I try not to ride the drama wave when it comes to stuff like this but I was genuinely concerned...the first time I heard about this earthquake was 9 o'clock this morning on Twitter! The news said buildings were shaking in Tokyo and there had been considerable damage and last death toll I heard was 40...

Anyway, I hope that any friends you may have over there are all okay and your property hasn't suffered any damage.

    Take care of yourself!
